Open Technology Foundation

On 30 September 2009, the Office of the CIO presented a web cast to Australian and New Zealand State and Federal governments, selected information and communications technology [ICT] vendors and academia on an important and innovative initiative – the Open Technology Foundation [OTF].

The purpose of the OTF will be to help governments make better, more cost effective, and more innovative use of open technologies, standards and methods in order to improve service delivery to citizens. The OTF will achieve this by sharing information and resources contributing to the evaluation and, where proven, uptake, of open technologies, standards and methods. The OTF will focus on openness in order to help governments achieve more interoperability, independence, resilience and flexibility in their ICT operations.

Representatives from Australian and New Zealand jurisdictions, the open source community, industry and academia met in Adelaide on 3 December 2009 to finalise the OTF business plan. This business plan will be used to seek start-up funding for the OTF.
