Data and Information
Policies
The Custodianship Policy clearly identifies responsibility for the management of data sets. The Government has obligations in terms of privacy and security of information and must maintain the integrity of its data resource to ensure that its service delivery and development goals can be met.
A consistent whole of Government approach to data in all forms is a valuable resource to be used for the benefit of the SA community. Subject to prudent privacy and security measures, Government data must be made available to the maximum extent that is legally and economically possible.
Where an agency outsourcers provision of data and information, Government retains ownership of the data or information.
Agencies must take appropriate steps to protect the Government right of Intellectual Property over its data to ensure levels of security, confidentiality and information is maintained to a suitable standard.
Standards
The date standard applies to all general purpose applications that are new, being upgraded or being replaced. The format in question facilitates the sorting of events into chronological order.
This standard is for all personnel who are involved in the planning, development or updating of government ICT systems that store or utilise street address information. It defines the standard for describing street and postal addresses within the SA Government.
